Tickets can be purchased on-site starting Friday, May 9 at 9:00 a.m. in the lobby of the Bourbon Orleans Hotel located at 717 Orleans.

You can purchase tickets over the phone by calling 504-581-1144 through 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 8. Tickets range from $15 -$100 for a weekend pass. One day passes are available on site.

“Us,” Tim Miller’s one-man, one-night show that occurs on Saturday, May 10^th, at the Marigny Theater, ricochets between Miller’s love affair with Broadway musicals to an exploration of gay marriage, exile and the injustices lesbian and gay people face in the good ol' USA. The show careens from memories of a ten year old's plan to flee to Canada to escape the war in Viet Nam ("Man of La Mancha") to a meditation on why a Southern California child spoke with an English accent (Oliver!"). Miller takes us on a journey that re-thinks the American Musical as inspiration for radical politics and queer identity. "Us" was nominated in 2005 for a NY Drama Desk Award for best solo on- or off-Broadway. The show also appears in Miller’s book 1001 BEDS which won the 2007 literary prize for best Drama-Theater Book from the Lambda Literary Foundation. For information about tickets, click here.

A Day Without Sunshine is a new solo performance by Elizabeth Whitney and directed by Mark Finley. Featuring original music, the show explores recent histories of “family values” with a specific focus on pageant queen, singer, and orange juice spokesperson turned virulent anti-gay activist Anita Bryant. Inspired by Whitney's memories of growing up in Tallahassee, Florida during Bryant's infamous Save Our Children campaign, Whitney manages to bring humor and insight into her imaginative portrayal of Bryant. A Day Without Sunshine was developed at La Mama ETC's 2007 Playwriting Residency in Italy with Lisa Kron, and was workshopped at Dixon Place in New York City in October 2007. www.elizabethwhitney.com

Hello Registrants!

Thank you for registering for the 2008 Saints and Sinners Literary Festival. Your interest in and support of the event is greatly appreciated. The complete schedule is almost finalized and will be posted soon.

This 6th annual event will be filled with great conversations about writing, with terrific theater, fun parties and the best kind of connections. If you get into the city on Thursday, you should check out our kickoff event at the W-Hotel's beautiful courtyard. "Read Me Something, Mister!" will feature authors Paul Lisicky, Mark Doty, Greg Herren, and J.M. Redmann reading passages from their favorite New Orleans' authors. This is a ticketed event. Of course, you can always catch panel discussions, performances, readings, and more at the Bourbon Orleans or the Bourbon Pub/Parade Bar. Our theatre events will take place at the Marigny Theatre (you can pick up a program at the registration table that will tell you everything you need to know). Our book fair will begin on Friday, May 9 with titles of participating authors, sponsors, and books of local interest. And make sure to pick up an exclusive Saints and Sinners book bag to carry home your loot. And as every year, there's plenty of time just to visit with old friends or to make new ones.

Your registration badges that will get you into all panels, readings, and parties can be picked up in the lobby of the Bourbon Orleans Hotel, 717 Orleans in the French Quarter, starting on May 9th at 9 a.m. Tickets for all master classes, theatre, and special events will be at the registration table with your badge. Also, make sure to check out the welcome party (which is included with your weekend pass) at a new chic location. From 5:30 - 7:30, come and enjoy drinks and New Orleans nibbles at the W-French Quarter Courtyard, located at 316 Chartres Street.

For folks that haven't been to Saints and Sinners before, prepare for some heat in its many forms. Temperatures will be in the 80s, and the Quarter should be in bloom.

The Sixth Annual Saints and Sinners Literary Festival is just around the corner and we are so excited to see the preliminary schedule taking shape that we couldn’t wait another minute to share some highlights and let you know that the online registration is available..

I also want to take this opportunity to personally request your help to ensure the festival not only continues to provide quality programming, but continues to grow. As many of you already know, Saints and Sinners is currently completely organized by unpaid volunteers. It is truly a labor of love as all of the work is done without monetary compensation. More volunteers are needed to ensure the festival continues and prospers with each year. You don’t have to have a large amount of free time? An hour or two a week would be perfect. There are currently a few projects we could use help with now. So if Saints and Sinners is as important to you as it is to us, please volunteer to do some pre-conference work.

As the festival enters its sixth year, we would like to ask your help in achieving a goal of raising $20,000 between now and December 31. As many of you already know, Saints and Sinners is currently completely organized by unpaid volunteers. It is truly a labor of love as all of the work is done without monetary compensation. Our fundraising goal would allow us to hire a much-needed, part-time office assistant to help with the pre-conference administrative work, and pay for general operating expenses to produce the event—venue rental, printing, advertising, etc. Additionally, donations would also go towards providing registration scholarships for individuals who otherwise might not be able to afford to register for the event.

With all of the problems and difficulties currently facing the LGBTQ publishing community, the role the Saints and Sinners Literary Festival plays in helping to support and connect our community of authors and publishers is needed more than ever. Please help to ensure the festival not only continues, but grows by becoming a premiere affiliate of our new Archangel Membership program.
